Komer Alton Johnson, Jr. 79, of Nevada, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at MercyOne in Des
Moines.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 6 at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street) in Nevada. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7 also at the church. Burial will be at a later date at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.

Komer was born November 15, 1939, in Joice, Iowa the son of Komer Alton Sr. and Marian LaVonne (Edgington) Johnson. He graduated from Joice High School and joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Ord, California. Upon returning to Iowa, Komer owned and operated a gas station while helping his dad farm. He also worked for Saxrude Lumberyard in Lake Mills, Iowa. Komer went on to become the Line Foreman for the Nevada site, which he enjoyed training his new journeyman lineman and retired after 38 years from Marshall County R.E.C. On September 9, 1978, he was united in marriage to Debra Lynn Boozell in Lake Mills.

Komer had a passion for antique tractors, especially Oliver’s. He restored many of them and enjoyed taking them through parades and on tractor rides with his grandson Zach and special friends James Scarlett and Marvin McBride. He was very proud to have his dad’s home-built John Deere tractor included with his own. Komer also helped Nevada FFA, hauling tractors all over Iowa for many years.

Family was first to Komer. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren telling stories.

Komer is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Deb of Nevada; his daughters: Kimberly Johnson of Nevada, Rachel Jensen of Nevada, Michelle (Chris) Stimson of Nevada and Kristina (Jason) Reece of Ankeny; his grandchildren: Orson (Nicki) Lyttle, Maggie Birkestrand, Tanner Johnson, Zach Birkestrand (Skye Borton), Taybor Johnson, Kadyn Tickle, Kyler Tickle and Dylan Jensen; his great-grandchildren: Quinn Lyttle and Jaxdyn Birkestrand; his sisters: Kay Whitman of Des Moines and Terry Seedorf of Lake Mills; and his very special son-like friends, Bob Carney and James Scarlett as well as countless other dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin Alton Johnson; his sister, Sharyl Jorth; and his brothers-in-law: Al Jorth, Dave Whitman, Dewey Seedorf.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Iowa Antique Power Association in memory of Komer.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
