Funeral Services Held at Colo for Late Wayne Buttry

Funeral services were held Friday at the Methodist church in Colo for Wayne Buttry, who passed away Wednesday Sept. 22. The local minister, Rev. Boos official officiated at the services before an altar banked with flowers from friends of the deceased. A quartet composed of Mrs. Chas. Yeager, Forrest Horner, Mrs. Lloyd Lounsberry and Chas. Lehman was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Merle Dickinson. Burial was in the family lot in the Colo cemetery. Pall bearers were Donald Atkinson, Gerald King, Dale Manning, Fred Eller, James Matters and Marvin Dodd.

Wayne R. Buttry, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Buttry, of Ames, born near Colo, April 8, 1918, and passed away at the Broadlawns General Hospital in Des Moines, Wednesday morning, Sept. 22, 1943, at 10:20 a.m. Age, 25 years, 5 months and 14 days.

Wayne suffered serious head injuries, double fracture of the leg, and many bruises, and was the second death resulting from an auto accident that occurred near Ankeny, early Monday Sept 20.

Wayne attended school at Colo, until March 1935 His family then moved to Zearing, where he then graduated from the Zearing High school with the class of 1936.

Wayne had received Christian Baptism, administered by a.Methodist minister. He had been farming for his parents from the time of graduation until he recently received a release to join the army. He was inducted into the army Friday Sept. 17 at Camp Dodge, and was on the usual induction furlough when the fatal accident occurred.

He is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs. W. C. Buttry, Ames, three sisters, Mrs. Chas. Barr, Ames, Mrs. Marion Christian, Colo, Mrs. Herman Hagen,_Ames; three brothers, Roy Buttry, Nevada, Corp. Russell Buttry, Seymour Johnson Field, Goldsboro, North Carolina and Carl Buttry at home. One brother, Henry Doyle Buttry preceded him in death in infancy.

There are many other relatives and friends who mourn the untimely death of this fine young man who was well liked by all who knew him.
