ANOTHER PIONEER CALLED

Grandma Gunder Died at an Advanced Age on Friday.

Ames, March 29--Grandma Gunder died at her home north of Ames on Friday evening, after an illness of three weeks. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Samuel Goughnor, of Ankeny, assisted by Rev. R. E. Jameson, of Ames. Interment in the Ames cemetery.

Elizabeth Savits was born in Bedford county, Penn., Oct. 1, 1828. Her mother died when she was bu a child. She grew to womanhood in the home of her aunt. At the age of nineteen she was united in marriage to David Morgan. To this union five children were born, two died in infancy and three survive. They are Mrs. Mary Lake of Ames, Mrs. Jennie Levan of Fremont, Mo., Mrs. Sarah Cartwright of Boone.

She was left a widow at the age of 32. Later she was united in marriage to Casper Gunder. In 1865 they came to the prairies of Boone County and suffered the privations of pioneer life. The succeeded in making a home for her own and her step-children in a way that the world could not distinguish between them. Here he only child to this union was born, Francis E. Gunder of Ames. In 1881 they moved to Ames and two years later to the farm north of Ames. Seven years later she was again left a widow. After this she spent her time with her children, mostly Mrs. Lake. Her life was a mission of love and good cheer, very active and energetic, assisting in the household duties up to her last illness.
