Native Pioneer Son of Iowa Center Dies at Maxwell on Saturday

Maxwell, Jan.3--George Smith, 87, native son of the Iowa Center neighborhood, died on New Year's Day at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Andrews, where he had been making his home since in March.

Mrs. Smith had passed away in 1932, and he leaves besides the daughter, Mrs. Andrews at whose home he passed away, daughters, Mrs. Edna Belcher and Mrs. James Fry of Maxwell, brothers Tom of St. James, Minn., and Harry Smith of Butterfield, Minn., and sister, Mrs. Rowena Hormell of Maxwell. Besides these he leaves 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Funeral rites will be held at the church in Iowa Center Tuesday at 3:30, with Rev. Fitz in charge. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery at Iowa Center.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: George Smith married (1) Susan Kitchen on 30 July 1874. She died 4 September 1875. He married (2) Clara Dolph on 11 October 1879. Clara (Dolph) Smith died 29 April 1932 at Iowa Center, Story County, Iowa. It is Clara that the above article refers to as "Mrs. Smith."
