Eric E. Evans Dies Suddenly, Funeral Rites on Wednesday

Roland, Dec. 27--Funeral rites for Erick E. Evans, 76, pioneer resident of the Roland community who died suddenly at the family home southwest of Roland, early Friday, will be held on Wednesday.

There will be a prayer service at the Evans homestead a mile west and two and a half south of Roland, Wednesday at 1:30, followed by the funeral services at Bergen Lutheran church, at 2 o'clock, with his pastor, Rev. A. E. Nelson in charge. Burial will be in the family lot in the Roland cemetery.

Eric Evans was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Evans, Sr., pioneers of the Roland neighborhood.

Upon the passing of the parents the home maintained by the sons Eric, Tom and Martin, and the maiden sister Betsey. The brother Tom died a number of years ago and the home has since been maintained by the brothers Eric and Martin and the sister, Betsey, the last two now being the sole survivors of one Howard township's oldest and most beloved families.

Mr. Evans, while not strong had been up and around in his usual health the day before, but when a member of the family entered his room early Friday morning to inquire as to his wishes regarding breakfast, he was found to have passed away, probably during his sleep.

He had been failing in health for some time and in May suffered from a severe attack of pneumonia and more recently had been a sufferer from dropsy. Death was due to a heart attack.

He was born August 6, 1868, on the same farm where he passed away. Living his entire lifetime in that community, he had served his local district as school treasurer and in many other positions of trust in the community and within his church organizations.

He leaves besides his brother Martin and sister Betsey at home, another brother Lewis Evans, of Blue Earth, Minn.

The deceased like other members of his family, was a person of the very highest character and was most highly regarded in the community in which he had so quietly spent his entire life. His death will be mourned in the home, the community and in his church in all of which he had a leading and guiding spirit, always for the best things in life.
