Funeral Services Sunday For H. R. Alcorn

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Presbyterian church in McCallburg for H. R. Alcorn with Rev. C. F. Schmidt of Stanhope in charge of the full Military service.

The caket bearers were Gerald Vallem, Andy Thopson, Gordon Woster, Delmer Helland, William Brown and James Hall.

The music was furnished by Mrs. F. E. Nail and Miss Catherine Craig, who sang "No Night There" and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" with Miss Cleo Tett pianist.

The beautiful floral gifts were cared for by Mrs. Gerald Vallem and Mrs. Clarence Severson. There were several gifts to worthy causes in memory of Mr. Alcorn. The services were in charge of the Brouhard Funeral Home.

Obituary

Hubert Roy Alcorn was born March 10, 1878, at Elkhart, Inc., and died Nov. 21, 1952, at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 74. He entered the armed forces May 25, 1898, and served during the Spanish American war. He was discharged from the army as a corporal on Oct. 30, 1898.

On January 23, 1902, at Radcliffe, Iowa, he was married to Ida Lenning. To this union were born six children: Elma Alcorn of Warren, Ohio; Raymond Alcorn of Cumberland, Wisconsin; Mrs. Ione Grooters of Clarkfield, Minn., Kenneth Alcorn of McCallsburg and Mrs. Clara Gurwell of Des Moines; all of whom were here for the funeral. One son Wilford died at the age of three years.

Besides the wife and children, he is survived by nine grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Gazelle Johnson of Custer, S. D., and two half sister and two half brothers in Missouri.

Mr. Alcorn owned and operated an elevator at Stanhope at one time and has been engaged in farming but the past several years were spent in retirement in McCallsburg.

The Legion members taking part in the service were Commander Willis Mills; Chaplain Wesley Springer; Sgt. At Arms, Robert Lounsberry; Color Bearers, Paul Egenes and John Jacobson; Firing Squad, Donald Springer, Adrian Bergland, Eugene Hauptly, Donald Stackhouse and Vern Nelson. The flag that draped the casket was presented to Mrs. Alcorn by Chaplain Springer and Taps were sounded by Glenn Amdahl.

Burial was made in the McCallsburg cemetery.
