Thorsbakken Rites Held December 10
Funeral services for Mrs. Selmar Thorsbakken were held Thursday afternoon Dec. 10. A prayer service was held in the Larson Funeral Home, Story City at 1:30 preceding the service. Rev. Harold T. Masted officiated at the 2 p.m. service in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Emmett Olson of Stanhope sang two numbers accompanied by Miss Louise Olson on the organ. Bujrial was in the Story City Municipal cemetery.
Casket bearers were Vernon Thorsbakken, Charles Thorkbakken, Robert Anderson, Edward Anderson, Carroll Hauge and Donald Eggland.
Obituary
Josephine Theordora Halvorson, daughter of John and Thea Halverson was born Jan. 21, 1898 at Roland. She passed away on Monday morning Nov. 30 at the Story City Memorial Hospital where she had been admitted the previous day suffering from a heart attack.
She was baptized in the Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. At the age of four she moved with her parents to a farm in Barron County, Wisconsin. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Norwegian language by the Rev. Lund at the Dallas Lutheran Church in Dallas, Wis.
On Dec. 5, 1919 she was married to Selmar Thorsbakken of Story City by the Rev. T. T. Heimarck. They resided on a farm in Barron County, Wisconsin for seven years following their marriage and then spent five years in Stillwater, Minn. before moving to Story City where they resided for 28 years.
She is survived by her husband and three daughters, Mrs. Berniece Frahm of Hudson, Mrs. June Omdall of Barron, Wis. and Mrs. Jeanette Ehrig of Dinsdale, Iowa.
Twelve grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Elmer Johnson, Elk Mound, Wis. and four brothers, Oscar, Richard, Carl and Arthur Halvorson, all of Dallas, Wis. also survive.
They would have celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary on Saturday, Dec. 5th.
Among those in attendance at the funeral were from Barron, Dallas and Elk Mound, Wis., Des Moines, Estherville, Lohrville, Forest City, Traer, Hudson, Waterloo, Reinbeck, Dinsdale, Holland, Grundy Center, Williams, Iowa Falls, Ellsworth, Radcliffe, Zearing, McCallsburg, Roland, Randall, Ames, Jewell, Slater, Huxley and Boone.
