Mrs. R. W. Brouhard

A wave of sorrow passed over Colo and vicinity, Tuesday afternoon, April 17, 1917, when it was learned that Mrs. Roy W. Brouhard passed away at the Sanitarium in Nevada, shortly after noon. Mrs. Brouhard was ill only about three weeks. She had been at the Sanitarium about two weeks. An operation which was the only hope of saving her life was performed, from which she never rallied.

Olive May Birney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Birney of Nevada, was born in LeRoy, Ill., July 18, 1883. She moved with her parents to Webster City in 1891 and from thence to Story county in 1890. March 17, 1909, she was united in marriage to Roy W. Brouhard. One daughter was born to them, Zelma, who is now five years of age.

Mrs. Brouhard was a woman of noble Christian character. She united with the M. E. church here about three years ago and has since been a faithful member, willingly and efficiently working in the different departments of the church. She was teacher of a class of little girls in the Sunday school and secretary of the Ladies Aid Society at the time of her death. She was also an esteemed member of the Royal Neighbor lodge and W. O. club. She was a loving wife and mother, a good neighbor and a true friend. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband and little daughter, two step sons, Rossalym and Verle Brouhard, her father and mother, four sisters, Mrs. Wm. Young, Arkansas City, Kan.; Mrs. E. C. Rigdon, New Kirk, Okla.; Mrs. E. S. Lund, Dows, Ia., Miss Lorene Birney, New Providence, Ia. Two brother Oscar and Russell Birney, Ortley, S. D., and a large circle of friends. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church, Thursday p. m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. N. McCurdy. Interment was deferred until Friday morning on account of the delayed arrival of the brothers. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereavedones by the entire community.
