Smith Funeral Wednesday Afternoon

A gathering of relatives and friends that comfortably filled the auditorium of the Nevada Methodist Episcopal church paid their final tribute of earthly respect to the late Oscar Smith Wednesday afternoon.

The service was in charge of Rev. C. E. Lookingbill, assisted by Rev. Lawton and the interment was in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery.

Mr. Smith, for a third of a century a resident of Nevada, had a wide acquaintance in the community.

Oscar Smith was a son of Olive P. and Mary J. Smith, born at Lampsville, Ohio, May 11, 1872, and departed this life at Iowa Sanitarium, Nevada, Sunday evening at 7:30, December 20th, 1931, age 59 years, 7 months and 9 days.

He came to Iowa when a young man 20 years of age and was united in marriage to Mary Williams December 22nd, 1897. To this union seven children were born, Irvin, Lola and Ray died infancy; and the parents are survived by the sons, Marvin, Lewis, Vernon, and Bernice. The wife and mother passed away March 14, 1925, leaving the husband and 4 sons.

Mr. Smith was married June 10, 1930 to Mrs. Anna Lough, and she, with four sons, six grandchildren, four brothers and one sister survive him.

The brothers are Oliver Smith of Champaign, Ill., Frank of Le Roy, Ill., George, of Des Moines, and M. E. Smith of Mahomet, Ill. The sister is Mrs. Clara Pittman of LeRoy, Ill, all of whom were present at the funeral.

His wife, four sons, six grandchildren, four brothers and one sister, other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn his departure.
