Funeral Services Held Tuesday For George Wick

Roland, June 5--A large crowd attended the funeral on Tuesday afternoon at Bergen's Lutheran Church for the late George Wick who passed away Friday morning following a stroke. Mr. Wick underwent a major operation at Mary Greeley Hospital the first of the year. Rev. Allen Nelson was in charge of the services and the Rev. O. Amdalsrud spoke. Miss JoAnn Wick and Otto Hanson sang at the funeral.

The honorary pallbearers were Jacob Twedt, Tom Sampson, Arnie Johnson, T. Hegland and Sam Eggland. The acting pallbearers were Hallie Swenson, Sam Stevenson, Wayne Taylor, Robert Baughman, Joseph Phillips and Ranson Halland.

George Wick, age 73 years, son of the late Nils and Herborg Vik was born December 29, 1874 in Hardanger, Jondal, Norway. He was baptized in the Strandebarn Lutheran church in Strandebarn, Norway, and was confirmed in the same church October 20, 1889.

At the age of sixteen years in 1891 he immigrated to America with friends and came directly to Story City, and has lived in and around this vicinity the rest of his life. He was united in marriage to Julia Peterson of Story City on May 4, 1899 and three children were born to this union, one son and two daughters, Gerhard of Story City, (Josie) Mrs. Otis L. Sampson of Radcliffe, and (Alice) Mrs. Vincent Platts of Eldora. Six grandchildren also survive him, JoAnn and Palma Wick, Charlotte Carnette, Olin and JeMae Sampson. Besides his wife and family many relatives and friends mourn his passing.

He was the last member of his family being preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Wick was graduated from Iowa State College at Ames and was a creamery man for over thirty years. He has lived and worked in Roland since 1905, the past years he was employed at the Hegland Produce Co.
