JOHN WALL DIED OF HIS INJURIES

FUNERAL WAS HELD IN THIS CITY ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON BY REV. HENRY.

..John Wall, aged pioneer of this city, died Friday afternoon of injuries received in an automobile.. accident which occurred on the streets of Mason City on the Tuesday before. The funeral was held from the home of his stepdaughter, Mrs. Frank L. Albaugh, on First avenue north Sunday afternoon and the body was laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery by the side of his second wife who preceded him in death but a few months.

Mr. Wall died of injuries received when he was knocked down by an automobile at the corner of State and Delaware streets in Mason City. He was on his way home from town and was very near the home of his son, A. M. Wall, where he was making his home for a time. Mr. Wall was feeble and infirm from illness and recent injuries and as an automobile approached him, he seemed to falter and was unable to get out of the path, almost falling before it. The brakes on the auto did not work well and the driver a Mr. Blundel, who is a dairy inspector working out of Ames, was unable to avoid the accident.

He was picked up at once and taken to Mercy hospital where an examination showed that there was a fracture of the skull, one broken rib, three ribs torn loose and internal injuries were evident. He regained consciousness once, but there was no hopes of his recovery and he died at 9:50 o'clock Friday night.

The body was brought to this city Saturday afternoon and taken to the Albaugh home where the funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, in charge of George Henry, pastor of the Church of Christ in the absence of Rev. E. C. McDade of the Methodist church.

Mr. Wall had been a resident of Nevada for perhaps a quarter of a century and had wide circle of acquaintances over the county. He had been engaged in the hotel and boarding house business for many years and was familiarly known to people from all over the state who visited Nevada. He was a man who was popular and well respected by all who knew him and while he has been failing for some years and it was realized that the end was near, his death coming as it did, was a shock to all.

John Q. Wall was born in Bellefountain, Logan County, Ohio, in 1837 and departed this life at Mason City, Iowa, August 10, 1917 at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 6 days. He came to this state when a boy. At the age of 24 years he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Crow in Linn county, Iowa. To this union four children were born, one died in infancy. In 1868 his companion passed to the great beyond. In 1871 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Elizabeth Fuller and to this union one child was born, it dying at the age of 5 years.

The second wife died at the home on Locust street in this city a few months ago and Mr. Wall leaves of his immediate family to mourn his death two sons, one daughter and one stepdaughter. The children are J. E. Wall of Cedar Rapid, A. M. Wall of Mason City, Mrs. Hattie Conklin of Parsons, Kansas, and Mrs. Frank Albaugh of this city. There are also 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and warm friends.
