SHOT.

Silas J. Sherman Accidentally Shoots Himself.

Silas J. Sherman of Nevada Township shot himself fatally while handling a gun yesterday afternoon at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Gamble, west of Maxwell. The particulars of the shooting we have been able to gather only a second hand. It appears, however, that the gun was Winchester repeater, loaded for rabbits. He had been chatting with some other men who were unloading corn, and passing around the crib to pick up his gun it was heard to go off. When the others reached him he was lying on the ground, unconscious, with a wound in his right side, the load having torn through his stomach and bowels. This morning he was reported alive but as not having recovered consciousness. Mr. Sherman is one of the most highly respected citizens of Nevada township, esteemed by all, and while his many friends hope for the best they are constrained to fear the worst.
