Obituaries

Walter W. Mooers

Funeral services for Walter W. Mooers, 70, were held Monday, February 9 at 1:30 p.m. from Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with the Rev. Robert Simmons of the First United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial was in the Ames Municipal Cemetery with the American Legion conducting the graveside services. Pallbearers included Lloyd Alderman, Vincent Beck, Marion Eacret, William Pyle, Keith Robinson and Louis Wood.

Born in Kewanee, Illinois July 24, 1905 the son of Willis and Pearline Mooers, he was married to Doris A. Paulson June 29, 1941 in Hiawatha, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Wayne D. Mooers Des Moines, Des Moines, and six grandchildren: Bruce Mooers, Hastings, Neb.; Dennis Mooers, Des Moines; Steven Mooers, Des Moines; Larry Mooers, Des Moines; Bill Mooers, Des Moines; Sue Mooers, Des Moines; and ten great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is one brother Guy Hicks of Marshalltown. Preceding him in death were two brothers Merle Hicks, Clyde Hicks and his parents.

Mr. Mooers served with the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion, Ames Post 37 and a member of the 40 & 8. He was a parade master for the Memorial Day services for many years. He was a mechanic with Allen Motor Company after discharge from the service until 1957 when he was employed by the city of Ames until his retirement in 1970.

Mr. Mooers lived the majority of his life in the Ames area. He passed away at Mary Greeley Hospital February 6, 1976.
