Townswick Services Held at Story City

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon January 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City for Olaf C. Townswick. A short prayer service was held in the Church Chapel at 1:45, Rev. Ocee Johnson officiated. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Thelmer Swanson with Mrs. Alfred Jacobson at the organ.

Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Pall bearers were Severine Flattebo, Leslie Mathre, Carl Peterson, Roy Carlson, Argyle Townswick and Paul Heintz.

Memorials were given to St. Petri Church, Cancer Fund, Missions, Beloit Children's Home and Story City Memorial Hospital.

Those attending the funeral from a distance included Carlyle Townswick from Spokane, Washington; Harold Townswick RM1 from Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Nellie Thompson, Montivideo, Minnesota; Mrs. Irwin Stehn of Danvers, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Heintz of Benson, Minneota; Mr. and Mrs. Osmund Mortvedt and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Baum of Blue Earth, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. O. O. Howland, Eagle Grove; Mr. and Mrs Sam Townswick and Thelma of Hardy; Mrs. Opal Cathcart of Bode; Mr. and Mrs. Argyle Townswick of Forest City, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Emmons; Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Engebritson, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Peterson, Mr. and Roy Carlson, Stephen and Karen, Mr. and Mrs. August Rasmussen, Mrs. Nellie Potter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Kalvick all of Des Moines. Others attended from Ames, Nevada, Jewell, Ellsworth, Zearing, McCallsburg, Roland and Randall.

Obituary

Olaf C. Townswick, son of Christoffer and Kristina Tungesvick was born in Jondal, Hardanger, Norway on August 26, 1891.

At the age of 12, he with his brother Sam now of Hardy, Iowa emigrated to America coming directly to Story City. He spent his early boyhood at the home of an uncle and aunt, the late Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig near Roland.

He attended the rural school in that vicinity and was confirmed by the late Rev. Sandven at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland in 1905.

On Nov. 1, 1916 he was united in marriage to Mora Amlund by the late Rev. Henry Solem. To this unions were born six children, five of whom with their mother survive. The children are Elsie, Mrs. Kenneth Handeland of Nevada; Carlyle of Spokane, Washington; Kathryn, Mrs. Conroy Fagerland of Roland; Harold of Cleveland, Ohio; and Margaret Ann, Mrs. Emmet Peter of Story City. A son Donald preceded him in death in 1952. Eight grandchildren survive; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Thompson of Montivideo, Minnesota; Mrs. Hanna Howland of Estherville and Mrs. Lena Tegland of San Francisco, California; two brothers, Sam of Hardy and Ludwig in Norway. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

An accident in 1944 left him in a crippled condition. After an illness of two years, two months and two weeks, he passed away at his home in Story City at 2 p.m. on January 4.
