Obituary

Mabel Rose Sherk was born Aug. 28, 1873 at Wakonda, S. D. She died Sept. 7, 1960 at Ames, Iowa, aged 87 years and ten days.

On June 27, 1907 she was united in marriage to Martin L. Tesdall. To this union was born one son, Lawrence Harold, who died in infancy.

The Tesdall resided in Story Count practically all of their years together. Many of those years were spent in Nevada where Mable was active in the work of the Lutheran Church. She will be remembered particularly as the teacher of a large group of girls who were greatly influenced by her. She and Miss Letta Simmons organized the group which became known as the Simmons-Tesdall Missionary Society. This society is still an active part of the church.

Later the Tesdall family moved to Huxley and united with the Lutheran Church there. Both were active and consecrated members until age and infirmities made active participation impossible.

The death of Mable's sister Stella, in 1902, left two baby girls who were raised as daughters in the Tesdall home. Both of these nieces survive her. They are Mrs. C. P. Bellan, (Hazel) of Berwyn, Ill. and Mrs. Nathan B. Williams (Helen) of Belle Plaine, Iowa.

Other survivors are two brothers, W. J. Sherk of Hinsdale, Ill. and John L. Sherk of Warrens, Wis. besides nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
