Eric James Dalthorp, 35, of Nevada, was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at his home in Nevada.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 15, at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street) in Nevada. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 16, also at the church with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating.

Eric was born September 21, 1983, in Ames, the son of James Wesley and Annette Louise (Nelson) Dalthorp. He graduated from Nevada High School in 2002, graduated from DMACC, and attended Iowa State University, eventually earning his bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Simpson College. On August 19, 2012, Eric was united in marriage to Emily Ann Haydon at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Eric worked for the USDA as an IT Specialist for the past 15 years. He was also known to offer computer help and assistance to anyone who needed it.

Eric enjoyed Star Wars, woodworking, constructing with Legos and was a self-proclaimed computer nerd. He had the privilege and honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. Eric was an avid bicyclist and had participated in RAGBRAI. He was a generous and thoughtful individual who willingly helped whenever and wherever he could. Even in death, Eric will be able to help many people, as a tissue donor.

Eric had a very deep faith and was a very active member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. He served his church in many capacities including: Church Nerds, Mission Team, Grace Institute, Council Member, Treasurer, Endowment Board and Faith Formation. Eric participated in mission trips through Many Hands for Haiti and was planning to go back in two weeks to volunteer.

Those left to cherish Eric’s memory include his wife, Emily of Nevada; his parents, James and Annette Dalthorp of Nevada; his brothers: Christopher (Brandi) of Des Moines, Steven of New York City and Matthew (Delilah) of St. Louis, MO; his in-laws, Mark and Jeanne Haydon of Urbandale; and his beloved Great-Dane, Winston. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Robert and Lois Jean Nelson and Vernon and Valeria Dalthorp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ministries of Memorial Lutheran Church.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
