From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Mary Ann Johnson, 69, of Nevada, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, November 26, at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street) in Nevada. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, also at Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

Mary was born March 2, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Raymond and Ora Mae (Andrews) Plueger. She graduated from Anamosa High School in 1967 and was united in marriage to Robert Dee Johnson on June 15, 1969 in Anamosa. Mary attended Buena Vista University and graduated from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. She worked for Farm Bureau for 26 years as an insurance agent until her retirement in 2010.

Mary was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, the Nevada Boosters Club and Indian Creek Country Club. She was an avid Hawkeye fan, holding season tickets for football for 28 years. Her hobbies included golfing, bowling and traveling. Mary enjoyed trips to the casino and the last 8 years wintering in Arizona, where she mastered shuffleboard.

Mary loved her grandchildren and supporting them in all their activities. She had a competitive nature and always enjoyed winning.

Mary is survived by her husband, Bob of Nevada; her children: Erin (Jerome) Rewerts of Nevada, Matt (Amy) Johnson of Blue Springs, MO and Libby (Randy) Ladd of Scottsdale, AZ; her grandchildren: Kelby, Kacie, Aubrey, Hallie, Grace, Jack and Owen; her siblings: Janice (Ed) Eilers of Anamosa, Gene Plueger of Thailand, and Jolene (Kim) Zirkelbach of Scotch Grove, IA. Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church.
