Services Held In Nevada Dec. 27 For Mrs. Robt. Hankins
A former Nevada resident who could remember the assassination of four presidents was buried here December 27.
She was Mrs. Carrie Hankins, 101, who died in Stillwater, Minn. December 24.
Mrs. Hankins has 39 descendants, all living. She was three years old when President Lincoln was assassinated.
On December 3 she celebrated her 101st birthday at the Elm Nursing Home in Stillwater, Minn. with her two daughters acting as hostesses for the 62 patients in the home.
She had been a life long member of the Methodist Church and was the last charter member of the Social Hour Club of Nevada.
Survivors include one son, Harry Hankins of Des Monies, two daughters, Miss Ferne Hankins of Omaha and Mrs. J. George (Cora) Dean of Stillwater; seven grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Dec. 27 at the Ryan Funeral Home with the Rev. James Dendler officiating. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery by her husband, who died in 1922. Four of her grandsons acted as pallbearers, Rev. Ray Hankins of Peru, Neb.; Gerald Sparks of Tulsa, Okla.; Mac Morrow of North Vernon, Ind. and William Foster of Des Moines.
