Funeral Service for Joe Phillips, 10, Held on Friday

Funeral services for Joseph Richard Phillips, ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Phillips, whose sudden death had greatly saddened the entire community, were held from the Ryan Funeral home Friday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. James D. Ransom officiating.

"Around the Throne of God in Heaven" and "Precious Jewels" were sung by Leslie Henderson, accompanied by Mrs. A. L. Hale. The casket bearers were Kenneth Dayton, Wayne Lounsberry, Cecil Myers and Lloyd Settle.

The many beautiful flowers were symbolic of the young life which had been taken away as a flower in his youth. They were arranged by Mrs. John Peterson, Mrs. Byron Bryant, Mrs. Adolph Kleinschmidt and Mrs. C. A. Ryan. The unusually large number of floral offerings were expressive of the out-pouring of sympathy for the parents, sisters, and other bereaved.

The Ryan Funeral Home was filled to capacity with relatives and friends paying their tribute of love to Joe and their sympathy to the family and other relatives.

Obituary

Joseph Richard Phillips was born in Nevada, July 23, 1939, and passed away August 9, at the age of ten years and 17 days. He was the only son of Marion and Julia Phillips.

Joe was christened in the Memorial Lutheran church where he continued to attend Sunday school regularly. He had his first days of school from kindergarten through the third grade at the North school and his fourth grade at Central building. He was an alert student and will be greatly missed by his many playmates and teachers.

Joe lived in Nevada until last March when he moved with his parents to a farm one and a half miles southeast of Nevada.

Little Joe had endeared himself to everyone by his friendly disposition and his ever ready smile. He was always willing and happy to be doing something for someone.

The entire community was shocked and saddened when Joe was called so suddenly as he was under anesthetic in the physician's office after cutting a tendon in his finger.

Surviving are the parents, Marion and Julia Phillips, two sisters, Celeste Eilene, eight years of age, and Sally Ann, three weeks, the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Anderson and his grandmother, Mrs. Rena Phillips of Nevada, uncles and aunts and other relatives and hosts of friends who live him dearly.

Holder of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Larson, Margaret and Laurence of Cedar Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Askelson of Russellville, Ark., Mrs. Carl Olson, Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Phillips of Clarion, Lawrence Phillips of Denver, Colo., Lt. and Mrs. Maurice Phillips and family of Salina, Kansas, and many friends and relatives from Maxwell, McCallsburg, Roland, Story City, Ames and Colo.
