Obituary

Mathias Malvin Oswald, son of John and Amelia Oswald, was born October 25, 1870, in Jasper county, Iowa. When he was but five month of age he with his family moved to Story county. The remainder of his life with the exception of about 15 years, was spent in Story county.

On Nov. 27, 1895 he was united in marriage with Lydia Dunaway at Newton, Iowa. To this union six children were born. Two girls died in infancy and one boy passed away at the age of 13. His wife departed this life on June 11, 1937.

Mr. Oswald was baptized in the Lutheran faith, but he had never united with any church. Due to his advanced age, he had not been in robust health for some time, yet he had been up and about when suddenly death claimed him. He departed this life on Friday, Feb. 22, at about 11:30 in the morning having reached the age of 81 years, three months and 27 days.

Surviving the loss are three daughters, Mrs. Amelia Larson, Mrs. Beulah Harness and Mrs. Mabel Tesdall, all of the Story City community; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Remaining also is one brother, Joe Oswald.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters and one brother.

May the strengthening and comforting presence of our Lord and Master be with the hearts who are left to mourn their loss.
