Funeral Service For Mrs. Marie Mabe Held Here Wednesday

Funeral services for the later Mrs. Marie Mabe who died Monday morning following a two weeks illness were held from the Nevada Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. with the Rev. O. E. Cooley officiating. The service was largely attended.

Mrs. Norman C. Dobson was at the organ playing a number of hymns during the service.

The floral pieces were cared for by Mrs. Belle Henrehan, Mrs. Lee Riddlesbarger and Mrs. W. L. Lawhorn. The Rebekahs attended the service in a body.

Pall bearers were longtime neighbors and friends, Forest Robison, Guy French, John Wycoff, Archie Otto, Tom Hemstock and Wm. Farrington.

Committal was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the husband who passed away in 1935. The following obituary was read at the service.

Mary Brown Mabe was born in Ohio on January 20, 1880. She passed away at the Boone hospital on Monday morning, Feb. 2, following a two weeks illness. During the two weeks she was cared for at the home of her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mabe near Boone. The fatal illness came upon her suddenly and until that time Mrs. Mabe or Marie Mabe as she was commonly known around Nevada, was enjoying good health and was active in many community activities. She has made her home in recent years at the Bert Dickey residence in Nevada and it was there that she suffered the initial attack of the illness which proved fatal.

When a girl of seven or eight she came to Iowa and made her home for several years near Iowa Center. Later she was married to Bert Mabe. They lived their entire lives in or near Nevada.

Her husband passed away in 1935.

She was an active member of the Nevada Methodist church, was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service, and the Friendly Sunday School class of which she was president at the time of her death. Mrs. Mabe was an active member of the Nevada Rebekah lodge of which she was a 25-year member. She was a member of the Ladies Encampment Auxiliary of the Leisure Hour club and a member of the Women's Relief Corps.

She leaves her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mabe of Boone, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Mabe of New York, also a brother-in-law and sister-in-law to the deceased; a half sister, Mrs. Ann Edgren of Des Moines, and a half borther, Clark McKee of Spokane, Wash.
