DEATHS

JOHN D. ALLEN

John Dorr Allen was born on November 4, 1910, in Nevada, to Dorr and May Wall Allen. He received his education in the Nevada School System graduating with the class of 1929.

On August 5, 1933, John was united in marriage to Dorothy Day of Nevada in Marshalltown. To this union, one son, Carl, was born.

John had early employment with Ringheim & Ringheim Store, R.H. Donnelley Corp. and the U.S. Ordinance Plant in Ankeny. He served in the United States Navy during World War Ii form March 1944 to December 1945, being stationed in San Francisco.

His career with the Nevada Post Office began in 1946 as a substitute mail carrier, progressed to clerk duties and finally Assistant Postmaster in 1962, the position he held until retirement in May, 1971.

On September 15, 1969, John was married to Maxine Miner of Nevada at the home of Mayor Herb Shearman. They resided at 520 Fifth Street until his passing.

John is survived by his wife, Maxine; son, Carl, brother, William; and two grandchildren, Lori and Matthew; all of Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Dorothy, who died in 1966.

He was a member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge No. 99 and American Legion Post No 48. John received grave side services by the Masonic Order followed by burial in the Nevada Cemetery.
