Obituary

MARY PECK GOSS

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Peck Goss at the Presbyterian Church in Blairstown Wednesday, August 16, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Don Hodson officiating.

Mrs. Goss died at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo Sunday, August 13, where she had made her home the past 18 months.

Organist was Wendy Crombaugh, playing special selections, "How Great Thou Art, " and "Nearer My God To Thee." Pallbearers were Milo Sokol, Kenneth Smith, J. Wesley Lively, John Whitworth, Bruce Hannen and Raymond Airy. The deceased was born Sept. 20, 1896, at McCallsburg, Iowa. She attended junior high school at McCallsburg, and graduated from Ellsworth Academy in 1915. She attended Ellsworth College one year and then taught school for two years. She graduated from Coe College in 1921. She taught school for several years and also worked in the agricultural department at Ames College.

She was married to George W. Goss November 3, 1927, at Blairstown, Iowa. She was united with the Presbyterian Church Oct. 9, 1938, where she was ordained and served as an elder.

She joined Eastern Star in Nov., 1928, and was to be awarded her fifty year certificate and pin in September which she has received.

She worked at the telephone office as night operator from May, 1951, to Dec. 1960, when they changed to dial, was librarian from 1950 to Dec. 1965, and for many years sold insurance for Banker's Life & Casualty Co.

She is survived by one brother, Millard Peck of Marietta, N.Y., five step children, Kenneth Goss of Jackson, Mich.; Margaret Janss, Belle Plaine; Adah Nuezil, Keystone; Mrs. Kenneth (Harriet) Rathjen, Marengo; and Jack Goss, Sudbury, Mass. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Edwin, Charles, James and Earl J.; and two sisters, Faye Schauper and Leila Mills.
