Karl Cessna Dies At Home Here Sunday Afternoon

Karl B. Cessna, a longtime farmer and businessman, died at his home at 1016 8th St., Nevada, at 1:25 p.m. Sunday after suffering a heart attack. He was 73 years of age and had been in failing health for some time.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. La Mont Cessna, he was born July 23, 1892 on a farm southwest of Nevada. He lived most of his life in Story County.

In 1919 he became a joint owner of the Nevada Coal and Ice Company. After selling his interest in that firm he moved to a farm in Nevada Township where he lived until 1945. At that time he moved to town and became parts manager for the John Deere Implement Company where he was employed until 1957. Since his retirement he has done woodworking and repair at his home shop.

He was married to Miss Vivian Smith in 1918 in Nevada. He was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church and was formerly on the Church Council. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge No. 99, Des Moines consistory.

Cessna is survived by his wife; two daughters, Naomi Scott of Indianapolis, Ind. and Barbara Pickett of Boulder, Colo.; four grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Cessna, Nevada; and one sister, Mrs. John (Hazel) Keimig, Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Cessna McDonald, Denver.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Lutheran Church with the Rev. E. P. Windman officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery.
