Services for area deaths

VIVIAN CESSNA

Services will be held Friday, August 23 at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada for Vivian Cessna, 81, who died early Tuesday morning at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. She had been ill for two weeks.

Mrs. Cessna, who was residing at 1016 8th Street, Nevada, at the time of her death, was born January 4, 1893 in Story County to Winfield and Laura Smith. She had lived in Story County her entire life.

Mrs. Cessna was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, the P.E.O., SEY, the Community Service Guild and Commission for the Blind.

For almost 15 years, Mrs. Cessna transcribed books and other materials into Braille. During that time, it is estimated that Mrs. Cessna transcribed more than 15,000 pages for distribution to the blind.

Mrs. Cessna is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Naomi Scott of Dayton, Ohio and Mrs. Barbara Pickett of Boulder, Colorado, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One sister, Mrs. Edna R. Nelson of Nevada also survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and her husband, Karl B. Cessna, who died in 1965.

Pastor Wayne Hanson will be officiating at the Tuesday services. Burial will follow in the Nevada Cemetery. Friends may call at Ryan's Funeral Home after noon Thursday. A memorial fund has been established.
