Last Rites Held For Mrs. Sophie Johnsen Monday In Nevada

Services for Mrs. Sophie Johnsen who passed away Friday morning at the Stewart Rest Home in Des Moines, were held from the Dixon Funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. E. P. Windman of the Memorial Lutheran church officiating. Burial was beside her husband A. P. Johnsen in the Nevada Cemetery.

Leslie Henderson accompanied Richard Couser in two songs "In the Garden," and "No Night There." There were also organ selections played at the beginning and close of the service.

Pallbearers were Mac Allen, George Allen, Phillip Allen, M. J. Hansen, George Hansen and Alvin Nelson.

Obituary

Mrs. Sophie Johnsen was born in Denmark, Feb. 19, 1866. She came to America when she was 19 years of age. She passed on to life eternal Dec. 5, 1952, in Des Moines.

On March 7, 1888 she was united in marriage to Anton P. Johnsen. To this union were born the following sons and daughters, Mary, Mrs. Frank Melohn, Sophus, Johnny, Herman, and Vivian, Mrs. John Allen, all of California, and Minnie, Mrs. Fred Sorensen of Nevada.

Mr. Johnsen preceded her in death in April, 1951.

In addition to her sons and daughters, Mrs. Johnsen is survived by eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. J. E. Johnson of Des Moines and one brother, A. P. Anderson of Portland, Oregon. The late Hans Anderson of Nevada was a brother of Mrs. Johnsen.

From Out of Town

Among the relatives from out of town in attendance at the last rites were the sister of the deceased and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Johnson of Des Moines, the latter's son Arthur Johnson of Pasadena, Calif., the granddaughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Christiansen of Des Moines and Mrs. Harls J. Bishop of Des Moines.
