NELLIE HURD

Nellie Lorene Hurd, 70, of rural Ames, died Thursday, June 18 1981 at her home of cancer.

She was born July 6, 1910 in Greenleafton, Ia., the daughter of William and Roseanna Nutterfee Bell. A graduate of Sigourney High School, she married Roy Andrew Hurd on Feb. 11, 1928 at Aitkin, Minn.

Most of their married life was spent in Keokuk, Greene and Story Counties. Mrs. Hurd was custodian at Gates Hall in Nevada from 1964-71. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, Ames.

She is survived by three sons, Russell of Uxbridge, Mass., Jim of Gilbert and Donnie of Ellsworth; four daughters, JoAnn Leibold of Ames, Janet Prickett of Greenville, Me., Karen Huggins of Napton, Mo. and Sharon Ray of Knobknoster, Mo.; one sister, Lottie Saur of San Jose, Calif.; 34 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 1970; a son, Roy Andrew Jr.; three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10 at the Ryan Funeral Home, Nevada, with Rev. Dean Moe officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Cemetery.

The family will meet friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.
