MRS. IRA ALLEN DIED EARLY TODAY

WELL KNOWN WOMAN PASSED AWAY AT HOSPITAL IN AMES

Mrs. Jennie Allen, 79, widow of the late Ira Allen, Civil war veteran and longtime resident of Nevada, died at Mary Greeley hospital at Ames, early today, from the effects of paralysis and other complications.

Mrs. Allen had been in the hospital since October 22, 1930, when she was taken there following a paralytic stroke.

She had been cared for with care by her children and her long illness had been featured by the fortitude with which she had borne up under the confinement.

Funeral services for Mrs. Allen will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Adams Funeral home at Ames, after which the body will be brought to Nevada for interment in the cemetery on the family lot by the side of her husband, a son and two daughters.

She was born Jennie Blackman at Ontario, in Wayne county, New York, July 17, 1854. She came with her people to Benton county, Iowa in 1863 and later to Nevada. She was united in marriage to Ira J. Allen and nine children were born to them. The family home continued in Nevada during the life of the husband and five of the children survive the parents. One died in infancy, while three of the deceased died after growing to manhood and womanhood, they being Lena, Faye and Bert H. Allen. Those surviving are Mrs. Belle Frazier of Albion, Mrs. Flo Boller of Nevada, Mrs. Georgia Doggett of Ames, Mrs. Blanche Gilchrist of Ames and the son of Dorr Allen of Nevada.

She leaves one sister, Mrs. Julia Stevens of Rhodes.

The father, John Blackman was a native of Kent, England, while her mother Sophia Carley was born in Sussex, England.

Mrs. Allen, long well known and most kindly remembered in Nevada, was a woman of many fine characteristics, particularly devoted to her family and home and was a woman of the very finest character.
