Mrs. W. J. Veneman Passes

Mrs. W. J. Veneman who for nearly forty years had resided in or near Maxwell, died January 24th at the family home in Maxwell, aged 68 years. She had been a sufferer for five years, but her final illness was brief. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. E. Goodrich in the M. E. church on the 26, and interment was in the Maxwell cemetery.

Margaret S. Kirby was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, December 11, 1843. She came wit her parents to Iowa in 1860 and in August, 1866, was married to W. J. Veneman, whom she had met while she was teaching school near Des Moines. They made their home in Polk county until 1873 when they moved to the old Veneman homestead, northeast of Maxwell. Their home was blessed with four sons and two daughters. The eldest son, Roy V., passed away five years ago. The survivors are L. J., of Maxwell; Nelson J., of Scranton, Iowa; Ward, of Brundji, Minn.; Mrs. Harriet M. Black, of Scranton, Iowa, and Mrs. Alberta Cole of Winterset, Iowa. Mr. Veneman survives as so a long list of people who loved the worthy woman gone. To the bereaved husband goes out especial sympathy. His son Nelson and family will move here from Scranton and keep the parental home.
