COLO CHRONICLES
BY HENRY YEAGER

OBITUARY

Roger McCoy, an old and highly respected pioneer of Story county, passed away during the night of Sept. 22nd at his home in town at the advanced age of 86 years. The funeral took place Sept. 24th. The services were held in the Catholic church, of which he was a devoted member all his life, Rev. Father Hennesey conducting the services. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery near Nevada. The high esteem in which he was held was shown by the large attendance of the funeral. Mr. McCoy was born in Ireland, moved to the United States, and in 1861 to Iowa and 29 years ago to Story county, where he remained on the farm until about three years ago when he moved to Colo. He was married 45 years ago and was the father of 11 sons and daughters, all but one, Frank, surviving him, as does his wife. The surviving children are James, Thomas, Anthony, Mrs. Jas. O'Donnell, and Mrs. M. J. Hopkins of this place, John, Mrs. John Hopkins, Mrs. N. W. Gates* of Nevada, William, of Montana, Martin of Norfolk, Neb. He may have justly claimed a life well spent and his friends were only numbered by his acquaintances. The family have the sympathy of all in their loss.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The daughter of Roger McCoy, Della McCoy, married Nicholas W. Gales (not Gates as stated) on 9 November 1892 in Colo, Story County, Iowa.
