Richard “Rich” Grant Lindley, 72, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at The Estates at Twin Rivers in Anoka, Minnesota ending his brave 3 year battle with dementia. Visitation will be Monday, August 13th from 4-7pm at Cedar Memorial, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A graveside service will occur with immediate family the following day. Rich was born October 23, 1945 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA. He graduated from City High in Iowa City and married Cheryl Heitshusen on April 17, 1966. Rich loved the outdoors and was an avid bird and dog lover. He enjoyed working in the yard, going for walks, woodworking, golf, boating, fishing and astronomy. He was a very intelligent man who loved sharing that wealth of knowledge with those he loved. He also had a wicked, dry sense of humor. He was very involved in the lives of his grandchildren whom he showered with love. When his children were young, he led the family on many vacations and camping trips. He was also always ready to “have a catch” or play cards.

Rich was a civil engineer and spent the first 36 years of his career as a contractor working internationally as well as in the states. He began working for the City of Cedar Rapids Water Department in 2001 and retired in 2012. Some of the projects Rich was most proud to be a part of in his career include the renovation of the Cedar Rapids Water Treatment plant, the Cedar Rapids Cherry Hill pool, and the construction of the Cedar Rapids Kernels Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Rich is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Cheryl of Robbinsdale, MN, his son Kevan Lindley and wife Tracy of Maple Grove, MN, his daughter Allison Peterson and husband Joe of Fort Dodge, IA and grandchildren Ty, Mackenzie, Natalie and Macey. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Lindley, who resides in Coralville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Merle, his brother Philip and granddaughter, Jessica.
