Obituary of Colo Pioneer, Martin Lax

Martin Lax was born in Drawitz, Germany Nov. 17th, 1833 and died at his home in Colo, Iowa August 16th, 1927 age 93 year 8 months and 29 days.

He was married to Anna Wentzke in the 1855. In 1865 Mr. Lax, with his family left Germany and settled near Pem[bro?], Canada, where they lived for five years, after which they came to Colo, who has been faithful in her loving care for and ministry to her aged father, a son, Fred Lax of Nevada, Ia. Also one granddaughter, Mrs. Glenn Rinehart of Hollandale, Minn. and 3 great grandchildren Carroll, Clare and Adelaid Rinehart. Mrs. Lax preceded him in death 22 years ago. He was converted to God and united with the Evangelical church many years ago and has been faithful unto death.

Mr. Lax was a lover of home life, was a friend to all and rejoiced in the large number of his friends. In his passing the home, the church, the community has lost a real benefactor.

The funeral was conducted Thursday from the Evangelical church. Music was rendered by a mixed quartet. The floral tributes were beautiful. Rev. Miller assisted by Rev. J. M. Bamford and Rev. Skogsberg of Ames, Ia. conducted the service. The body was laid to rest in the Colo cemetery.
Another body in churchyard sod.
Another soul on the life of God.
His Christ was buried and lives alway
Then trust in Him and go thy way.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Glen Rinehart and family of Hollandale, Minn., Mrs. L. C. Adams, Mrs. Fred Fluegel and Orville Adams of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McQuillen, Mr. Winfield, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Winfield and son of Ogden, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Kriner and son, Merwin of Nevada and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tevebaugh of Osceola.
