MAN KILLED IN AUTO CRASH NEAR HUXLEY WEDNESDAY

CAR FORCED INTO DITCH BY PASSING MOTORIST ON JEFFERSON

Special to the Journal.
Huxley, Oct. 9--One man was killed, another seriously injured, and third escaped injury, and a car in which they were riding was wrecked when it was forced into the ditch on No. 65, a mile south of Huxley late Wednesday afternoon.

Willard Shaffner [sic], 17, of Marshalltown was killed.
Earl Wildman, 50, of Des Moines, driver of the car, seriously injured.
Oran Meyer, 20, Marshalltown, uninjured.

The two Marshalltown boys had and were walking on No. 65 north of Des Moines then they were picked up by Wildman. The Wildman Ford sedan was forced from the highway paving by a passing motorist and overturned in the ditch with fatal results.

Shaffner [sic] was killed instantly while Wildman suffered cuts about the face and hands and severe injury to the chest. He was taken to Mary Greeley hospital, Ames, where the attending surgeons say he will recover.

The rumor that the wreck and fatality resulted from an attempted holdup of the driver by the passengers in the car is without foundation.
