S. G. AKERS DIED MONDAY NIGHT

FORMER RESIDENT OF THIS CITY PASSED AWAY AT MARSHALLTOWN

S. G. Akers, 65, former resident of this city died at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown at 2:30 this morning, following an illness of a few hours. Mr. Akers had bee assisting with the installation of an electric sign and about eleven o'clock complained of feeling ill. He was advised to return home and a short time later it was found he had fallen to the floor in an unconscious condition. Medical aid was quickly summoned and he was given every attention but he passed away without regaining consciousness.

Mr. Akers was born in Decatur county, August 6, 1865, a son of Spencer and Elizabeth Akers,. He was at the time of his death which occurred April 29, 1930, 64 years, 9 months and 7 days of age. He was married at Leon, Iowa, March 22, 1893, to Miss Susan Mae Spitznogle. To this union was born six children, the second child, Rollio Dwight, dying in infancy.

The five surviving children are Mabel, Mrs. Osler Briggs of Marshalltown; Jessie, Mrs. Grover D. Lavey*; Clarence Derwent Akers, Lua Bernetta and Marjorie La June Akers all of Nevada. He is also survived by his wife and seven grandchildren.

Two brothers Benjamin Akers at Denver, Colo. and Garrett Akers of Sacramento, Calif. also survive him. Mr. Akers had returned but a couple of weeks ago from Denver where he had spent the winter with his brother and a sister who has passed away since his return to Marshalltown where he has made his home for the past ten years.

The funeral party, accompanied by all the children will leave Wednesday morning for Decatur county where funeral services will be held at Elk Chapel at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Burial will be in the family cemetery at Elk Creek where the infant son is buried.
