Family Again Shocked by Suicide

TRAGIC DEATH OF SECOND MEMBER OF SAME FAMILY

Special to the Journal.
Roland, April 7--The second suicide in one family within three weeks was recorded here Sunday.

Mrs. Martha Michaelson, 65, probably brooding over the suicide of a granddaughter, Myrtle Teig three weeks ago, was found dead in the basement at the home of her brother, Peter Peterson, south of Roland, when the family returned home from church Sunday noon.

Her body, still warm, was found hanging by a scarf that had been looped about her neck, from an over head water pipe in the basement room of the farm home, where she had been staying for the past few weeks.

While it was known that she was worrying over the tragic death of her grandchild, the had been no suspicion of such an attempt on her part, and the suicide came as a great shock to the family.

The granddaughter Myrtle Teig, had suicided by taking strychnine, at her home near Jewell, Saturday, March 21.

Mrs. Michaelson, a widow, was a sister of Hans and Peter Peterson (Shea), well-known farmers of this community and a daughter of the late Knute Person (Shea), one of the pioneers of Milford township.

Ill health was added to the brooding over the tragic death of the granddaughter. She had went through two serious surgical operations some time ago and since that time had not been strong.

She leaves two daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Henry Teig of near Jewell, Michael Michaelson of Randall and Mrs. Carl Jacobson of Belmond. The husband had been dead for about 24 years. Other near relatives are the brothers P. J. Peterson and Hans M. Peterson both of near Roland.

There will be short funeral services at the Peterson home Wednesday at noon, with Rev. Sumstad of Bergen church in charge. The body will then be taken to her old church at Rosendale, where services will be conducted by Rev. Optdal of Rosendale and Rev. Opsdahl of Jewell. Interment will be in the Rosendale cemetery.
