Alice Bernice “Dolly” Schnur, 93 of Colo, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018, at The Households of Bethany in Story City.

Dolly was born June 23, 1924, in rural Gilman to Edwin and Thea (Larsen Morstol) Burchland. She graduated from Gilman High School in 1941 and Iowa Teachers College in 1943. On February 24, 1945, Dolly was united in marriage to Raymond Schnur in Gilman. Dolly taught second grade for two years in Colo and was a member of the S.E.N.A. Club for many years. In their many years on the farm, Dolly raised chickens and planted a large garden, canning many vegetables and freezing sweet corn. She was a great cook and many people looked forward to receiving her red raspberry jam. Dolly’s life was all about her family and friends, she loved spending time with them and she loved being home on the farm. She will be remembered for her sweet demeanor and as a completely unselfish person.

Dolly is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (John) Kingland of Ames; her son, Gene (Tammie) Schnur of Colo; her grandchildren: Jason (Kristin) Sjulin, Branden, (Holly) Schnur, Whitney (Billy) Holland, Brittany (Blake) Perisho and Nick (Jess) Tillman; five great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Lane, Josh, Lilly and Jackson; and her sisters-in-law: Jean Burchland, Doris Schnur and Elsie (Tom) Ryan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her children: Raymond Jr. (in infancy) and Duane Schnur; her sister, Margaret Lamberti; her brothers: Nils and Tom Burchland.

A joint remembrance service for Raymond and Dolly will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada (1418 Fawcett Pkwy). Chaplain Katherine Werner will officiate. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Colo Cemetery in Colo.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Greeley Hospice in Ames.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
