Miriam “Georgeane” (Anderson) Schumann, daughter of George and Ella Anderson Sommerfeld, was born February 11, 1938, in Rockwell City, IA. She passed away March 2, 2018, at the Israel Hospice House in Ames, IA, at the age of 80.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 3113 Diamond Street, Ames, IA 50010. Funeral service will take place at the church on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. Family will welcome friends an hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow services in the Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City, IA at 2:30 p.m.

Georgeane attended school from Kindergarten through 12th grade at Rockwell City Schools, in Rockwell City, IA. After her graduation, she worked in Rockwell City for Dr. David Carver for one year and then transferred to Oakdale, IA where she was a nurse’s aide at the Oakdale Sanitarium. While she worked there, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Donald Schumann, in Iowa City, IA on July 19, 1957. In 1958, they moved to Ames, IA and she worked at Bourns, Inc., while her husband attended Iowa State University. In 1962, they moved to Marshalltown, IA where her husband worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation. In 1968, they moved to Ames. Georgeane enjoyed doing many crafts such as crocheting, cross-stitch, sewing, and working on church banners and other church activities. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ames, IA for 48 years and taught Sunday school for many years and she worked for the Hy-Vee Corporation for 23 years.

She is survived by Donald, her husband of 60 years and 7 months; five children, Diane (Brian) Royalty – Camp Point, Il., David (Lifen Zhou) Schumann – Fairfax, VA., Daniel Schumann – Des Moines, IA., Linda (Mike ) Badger – Ames, IA., and William “Billy” (Joan) Schumann – Ames, IA.; six grand-children, Nathaniel (Emily), Benjamin, and Daniel Royalty (Elizabeth “Liz” Dix), Justin and Collin (Heather) Schumann, and Kati Schumann(Devon Ellson); four great grand-daughters, Katelynn and Natalie Royalty, Adriann Ellson, and Aurora Schumann; three step-grand-daughters, Linjiang “Hannah” Han, Summer (Aric) Hollingshead, and Ashley (Mike) Six-Bennett; one step-grandson, Jerrad Six; and seven step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Ireelyn Hollingshead, Gavin and Paris Bennett, Madison, Shauna and Jordan Six;, one brother, Ronald (Judy) Anderson – Bath, PA.; one sister-in-law, Sun Anderson – Seattle, WA.; one brother-in-law, Harold (Ruby) Schumann – Templeton, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ella (Anderson) Sommerfeld; step-father, Ernest Sommerfeld; four brothers, Robert Anderson in 2002 Huntington’s Disease, Floyd Anderson in 2009 Huntington’s Disease, Delbert Anderson in 2009 Emphysema and Pneumonia, and Norlyn Anderson in 2015 Emphysema; and four sisters-in-law, Marianne Anderson in 2010, Linda Anderson in 2011, Janice Anderson in 2011, and Martha Anderson in 2011.

In lieu of flowers memorial Contributions can be made in Georgeane’s name to the Bethany Lutheran Church, the Israel Hospice House, or to an organization of choice.
