Obituary for Lyle Herrold
Lionel (Call me Lyle!) was born 19 February 1941 in Marion, Indiana, and entered his eternal resting place on 13 January 2018. He moved to California with his family at 6 months old. Lyle grew up with a strong love for God and natural surroundings.
In 1964, he and wife Gloria moved to Iowa. Three wonderful children were born to this union. Damon (Teri), Kimberly (Terry), and Darren. Grandchildren Danielle, Mason, Kyrie (Joseph), Tyler, Devon, and Derek. Great-grandchildren Rory and Finley. Lyle enjoyed being close to God, a wonderful family, friends, and nature. Lyle retired from 24 years of US Army and Iowa Air National Guard military service.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and William Herrold and sister Charlotte.
Survivors include his wife Gloria of 54 years, his children, spouses, grandchildren, great –grandchildren, sister Kathy Boothe, brothers Bill, Maury (Betty), Dallas, and Ralph (Ellen), sister-in-laws Mary Jane Cairns, Sherry Cairns, and we can’t forget his very special dog and companion, Rufus.
On the Herrold’s property, Lyle hand dug a large water garden and waterfall, and many flower beds for both he and his wife. They spent countless hours in their backyard enjoying their pond, flowers, birds, and wildlife.
A special thank you to Dr. Merchant, the entire staff at the William R. Bliss Cancer Center, and the Mary Greeley Hospice Team for all the kindness, compassion, and outstanding care given to Lyle during his cancer journey.
