W.W. Ballard, Cambridge, Dies

W. W. Ballard, Cambridge, died Saturday at Long Beach, Calif., in St. Mary's Hospital. He had been in the hospital since Dec. 17 with a heart ailment.

He was 84, born Oct. 7, 1871, in the White Oak community.

He was a school superintendent in Iowa for more than 45 years, serving in Cambridge, Collins, Murray, Story City, Rockford, Panora and Huxley. He retired in 1935.

Mr. Ballard was a member of the Christian church at Elkhart. Funeral will be there Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Frahm of that church in charge. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery.

He was married to Minnie Thompson Sept. 5, 1893, at Cambridge. She died in 1937. He married Mrs. Alice Welch May 10, 1940. She survives along with two sons, Robert E., Lincoln, Neb. and Virgil W., San Francisco; two daughters, Mrs. Beulah White, Des Moines, and Mrs. Ferol Craven, Cambridge; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
