Passing of Wife of Well Known Farmer Mourned by Many
Special to the Journal-The funeral of the late Mrs John Lounsberry whose death occurred on Saturday morning was held from the Methodist church at 10:00 AM after which interment was in the Colo Cemetery. The services were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends attesting to the high esteem in which she had been held in the community.
Mrs Lounsberry was born Ethel, the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs T.M. Smith of this community, on Oct 29, 1887 and departed this life at her home northwest of the city on November 22, 1919.
She grew to young womanhood in this community, graduating from the Colo schools and taught school for a year before her marriage.
She was united in marriage Feb 24, 1909 to John Lounsbury. To this union of love, was born six children, three boys and three girls-Irene, Gladys, Woodrow, John Jr., Vernon and Annabel. Each of the children and her husband live to mourn her loss.
When but a girl she accepted Christ as her personal saviour in a special meeting held at the Methodist church. In Dec 1905, under the pastorate of Rev. S.N. Ramige, she united with the United Evangelical church where she remained a faithful member until being called from the church militant to the church triumphant.
I do know where His islands liftTheir fronded palms in air;
I also know I cannot drift beyondHis love and care.
As a child and mother she was always unselfish and ever looking to the welfare of her children and others. Her home and her loved ones had a large place in her affections as well as did her large circle of friends. She was such a lover of home. With her as the poet, there was no place like home, and she was careful to bring up her children as only an ernest Christian mother can. She often said that if any one of her loved ones were called that she wished to go first, and that it would seem that an all-wise Father had granted her desire.
In her sickness and in order to save her life, it was necessary for her to submit to an operation for appendicitis. Even to this, she never complained, but was cheerful and fearless, thinking only of others, instead of her own danger. Death relieved her suffering early Saturday. She had only reached the age of 32 years and 24 days, but her life was such that others have become better because she lived.
Those who mourn her loss besides her sorrowing husband and children are her father and mother, Mr and Mrs T.M. Smith, two brothers, Rueban of Cedar Rapids; and Oakley of Toledo, IA; one sister, Mrs Annabel Danskin of Colo and many relatives and friends.
