Life Sketch-Nellie Amelia Lounsbury (Lounsberry) was born Nov 13, 1884 in Dayton, OR. She died Oct 30, 1960 in Colo, Iowa She was the daughter of John and Alice Parson. Her father was a prominent Methodist minister in early Oregon and Alaskan history, who authored several well known books on the Methodist church, its men in early Oregon and its establishment in Alaska.
As a minister's daughter, she lived in many places during her childhood and attended many schools. Her formal education terminated upon her graduation from Williamette University, Salem, OR.
On Nov 6, 1909 at Portland, OR she married her college classmate, G.L. Lounsbury.
Both having previously lived in Alaska, they returned to Fairbanks to make it home until 1913 at which time they moved to Colo, Iowa, her husband's home town. Since that time her home has been Colo.
She was always a part of the Colo Methodist church-serving many years as director of the choir and throughout her active years as a choir member. She was always active with young people as a teacher 4-H leader or advisor. She was active in county affairs, serving as a member of the county board of education from 1929-1930., as county woman 4-H leader and as a member of the first organized county woman's chorus.
She belonged to the Colo Garden Club, Friendly Neighbors of Sherman-New Albany township and B.F. & T. club. She was active in Farm Bureau work.
She leaves her husband, G.L. Lounsbury and three sons, Lloyd P. of Fairbanks, Alaska; William of Colo; and James of Chicago, IL. In Oregon there are two brothers, George Parsons, Eugene, OR.; and John Parsons, Newport, OR and in Seattle, WA. a sister, Lucy Jensen. In addition there are 10 grandchildren.
