Curtis Charles Johnson, 68, of Ames, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Thursday, Nov. 30. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Friday, Dec. 1, at Christ Community Church in Ames. Burial will take place in the Ames Municipal Cemetery following the service.

Curtis was born March 8, 1949 in Fort Dodge to Everett Oliver and Charlotte Eleanor (Zehms) Johnson. Curtis was raised in Knierim, IA until the age of 16 when his family moved to Fort Dodge. After graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High school in 1967, he then furthered his education at Iowa State University.

On Aug. 26, 1972 Curtis married the love of his life, Nancy Hogan, at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge. In 1973, Curtis and Nancy moved to Ames, where they started their family. From 1973 to 2003 Curtis worked as a skilled carpenter in the construction industry. In 2003, Curtis went to work for Iowa Subway Development in Ames as a Field Consultant. Curtis enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was golf, bird watching, walks in the woods, riding his bike or just feeding the animals. As an avid Iowa State fan, he enjoyed attending and watching ISU athletic events. Family was the most important thing to Curtis. The love for his family carried over to his passion for watching his grandsons play hockey.

Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of Ames; his children, Tami (Justin) Woehl of Grimes, Kelly (Ryan) Kinart of Ames, Matthew (Katie) Johnson of Des Moines; four grandsons, Jackson Kinart, Jayden Kinart, Curtis Woehl, and Charlie Woehl; and one sister Judy (Jim) Collins of Hot Springs, Arkansas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Charlotte, and granddaughter, Abby Woehl.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be addressed to the family.
