Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Michael G. Rogers
March 28, 1945 - November 5, 2017

Michael (Mike) Rogers, 72, of Ames, Iowa, died on November 5, 2017 at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Burial will take place in the near future at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose, Iowa.

Mike was born and raised in Albia, Iowa. He was the 9th of 10 children and would often say that he couldn’t imagine anyone having a better childhood than he did. After graduating from Albia High School, he attended Centerville Community College and graduated from Northeast Missouri State University where he received a teaching degree. He later received his masters and specialist degrees from Drake University. He began his career teaching social studies back at Albia High School in 1968. From there he moved on to work as a school administrator; first as a Principal at Melcher-Dallas, then as a Superintendent at Ayrshire, Paton-Churdan, Sibley-Ocheyedan and South Hamilton. He retired from South Hamilton in 2001. He was extremely proud to be an educator. His kids will tell you that he didn’t stop being an educator after he retired.

Family and friends were the center of Mike’s life. He came from a large, very close family. Mike learned how to love from his parents, Seth Patterson and Isabelle Rogers and his siblings: Kathryn, Billy, Dick, Ben, Shirley, Freddie, Tisha and Pat D. He united that love in marriage to Judy Lawless in 1966. Together they taught their four kids and 13 grandkids what love is like. Mike also loved his 35 nieces and nephews very much. He thought of them often.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Isabelle Rogers; Bill and Freddie (brothers); Bev Rogers, Bill Leahy, Steve Sinnott and Donna Rogers (in-laws); Clara Louise Rogers (sister); Leo Sinnott (nephew).

Survivors include his wife Judy Rogers; children, Tim (Trina) Rogers, Joel (Michele) Rogers, Jason Rogers and Sarah Rogers Lewis; grandchildren, Tierney, Hanna (Cameron), Claire, Mattie, Seth, Caleb, Michael, Brenna, Ben, Jack, Sadie, Isabelle and Freddie; great-grandchild Liam; siblings, Kathryn (Edward) Griffin, Dick (Darlene) Rogers, Ben Rogers, Shirley Leahy, Tisha Sinnott, Pat D. (Ann) Rogers; brother-in-law, John (Mary Kay) Lawless; 35 nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

Mike was fond of saying "Remember Who You Are" by way of parting words. We hope Mike knows that many of us will never forget who he was and what he meant to us.
