Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Gertrude E. Dickinson was in July 18, 1920 in Story City to George and Emma (Schlafke) Boyd. She worked at Sevold’s Café in Story City from 1935 to 1936, then she worked at Wayside Inn in Ames and at the Ankeny Ordinance Plant. On September 9, 1943, she married the love of her life, LeVerne Dickinson. Gertie and LeVerne farmed in the Jewell and Stanhope area for 12 years, then moved to Jewell. Gertie continued to with food until she retired, working at the Coffee Cup Café and South Hamilton High School in Jewell. Gertie and LeVerne loved fishing and took an annual fishing trip to Minnesota. They also did a lot of traveling in the United States. Gertie had a wonderful life, married to her best friend. They were two peas in a pod, always together and enjoying life. Gertie lost her love LeVerne, when he passed away on September 10, 2006. She moved to Story City and spent six years at Cedar Place and a year at Bethany Manor.
Gertie was famous for her baking, not just with her family but with the entire community. Her cinnamon rolls especially were one of her biggest trademarks, and people came from all over to get them at the truck stop or Farmer’s Markets. Anyone who ever had one will remember that delicious maple frosting. She loved to socialize and be friendly with everyone. There was never a dull moment with Gertie, she was always causing mischief or making you laugh.
Gertie is survived by her two sons, Arlin (Kathy) Dickinson of Webster City and Bruce Dickinson of Burbank, CA, a daughter, Linda Roy of Jewell; five grandchildren, Adam (Teresa) Dickinson, Theresa Dickinson, Amber Dunn, Sarah (TJ) Beavers and AJ (Molly) Dickinson; nine great grandchildren, Carri Scott, Jovanny Scott, Taylor Scott, Nick Erritt, Alex Dickinson, Brittani Roy, Tianna Rasmussen, Sky Dunn and Cameron Lienemann and three great-great grandchildren, Clayton and Vaida Casteel and Darbi Jo Dickinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Walter, Orville, and Marion Boyd and a sister, Marjorie Boyd.Service
