Obituary

Sarah A. Perry was born at Ottawa, Ill. Feb. 12, 1846. While still a small child her parents moved to Sycamore, Ill., where in 1853 she married James R. Thurston. Four daughters were born to them. The eldest passed away while in young womanhood, in 1880 they with their three daughters moved onto a farm two and one half miles south west of Colo. As the years passed the daughters married and established homes of their own and Mr. and Mrs. Thurston retired from farm life and moved into Colo. June 29 1895 Mrs. Thurston was bereft of her husband. She continued in her own home where it was always a pleasure to visit her. Mrs. Thurston possessed a cheerful and loving disposition, was good and faithful wife, a kind and loving mother, loyal friend and neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She had been a faithful member of the M. E. church at Colo for years, attending all services unless unavoidably detained. Her presence and assistance will also be greatly missed by the Ladies Aid Society A week ago last Sunday when leaving church after services she fell sustaining injuries which caused her death August 10, 1913. Funeral services were held in the M. E. church Tuesday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. G. H. Johnson assisted by Rev. J. E. Habliston. The earthly remains were laid to rest in the Colo cemetery. She leaves to mourn her loss two brother Oliver Perry of California and George Perry of Sycamore, Ill., and one sister Mrs. Permelia Loury of Aurora, Ill., three daughters, Mrs. Laura Freeman of Lily Lake, Ill., Mrs. Esther Grose and Mrs. Anna Granger of Colo, six grand children besides numerous other relative and a host of friends. Out of town relatives in attendance at the funeral were her daughter Mrs. Freeman, George Perry (a brother), Mrs. Clare Lovel of Sycamore, Ill. (a niece), John Loury of Cherokee (a nephew), Mrs. Frank Anderson of Aurelia and Ambrose Perry of Webster City (cousins) besides a number of friends from Hubbard, Zearing, Marshalltown, Ames and Collins. The heart felt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved ones.
