OTIS BAUMGARDNER DROWNED

Young Man from McCallsburg Loses Life at Marshalltown

Otis Baumgardner of McCallsburg, son of Fred Baumgardner, prominent farmer of that vicinity, was drowned Sunday afternoon in the Iowa river near the Soldiers' Home at Marshalltown. He had recently purchased an automobile and he had taken a party of friends to Marshalltown to see the encampment of Barnum & Bailey's circus which was there over Sunday. In the course of the afternoon the party thought they would have a boat-ride, and went out. Baumgardner tried to manage a boat while standing up and he stumbled and fell upsetting the boat. The others of the party swam out and supposed he would do so; but he must have gotten his mouth full of water in his fall and before his situation was recognized it was too late to save him. His body was brought home by way of Nevada on Monday morning and the funeral is conducted today at McCallsburg. The deceased was a young and worthy man, just coming to maturity, and his death is a great shock to relative and friends. He is survived by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Otis Baumgardner was the son of Frederick J. Baumgardner and Mary Elizabeth Weaver.
