OBITUARY

ISAAC I. SPENCER

Isaac I. Spender, for more than half century a worthy citizen of Story county and at the time of his death second oldest person in the county, died February 28, 1913 at the home in Story City of his son William aged 98 years, 2 months and 2 days. He had been ill earlier in the winter had rallied but had failed steadily for a few days. He was born in New London, Conn. December 26, 1814, spent his earlier years in Ohio and Illinois and emigrated in Story county in 1856. He lived on a farm until 1899, when he moved to Nevada, which had since for the most part been his home. His wife died ten or a dozen years ago at the age of 79 and he is survived by nine of their twelve children, to wit: David, Mrs. Joshua Harrison, Mrs. Ellison, Orlando I., George (of Marshalltown), Mrs. Elias Ballard of Story City, Mrs. Harriet Harrison of Oklahoma, William of Story City, and Mrs. Martha Harrison of Kansas. His funeral was conducted on Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church in his city by the Rev. Birdie V. Batchelor.
