MRS. ELIZABETH HARRIS.

Mrs. Elizabeth Harris, widow of the late W. C. Harris died at her home in this city Monday evening February 10, 1913 after an illness of less than two weeks with pneumonia aged 82 years. Mrs. Harris was a native of England, her maiden name being Elizabeth Reed. She was reared in that country and there married Hewitt Bales with whom she emigrated to the United States, her first child, now Mrs. S. E. Armstrong being born on ship-board on the way over. The first settlement of the little family was in Ohio but later they removed to Marengo in this state, where Mr. Bales died and where later she remarried Mr. Harris, with whom she came to Story county. Here her home has been for many years and here Mr. Harris, who was one of the last survivors of the famous Light Brigade, passed away. Mrs. Harris had from her first marriage two daughters, the second of whom died a year or so ago at Davenport. To the second marriage there was born four sons and three daughters, all of whom survive. Mrs. Harris was a woman of most admirable qualities and she was very much loved and admired by those who knew her. Her death comes at a ripe-old age but it brings much sorrow to children and friends.

The funeral will be conducted from the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon at two thirty o'clock.
