Death of Aged Citizen.

Wm. Maronda died Friday, Aug. 2, 1912, at 4:15 p. m. at his home after several months illness with cancer of the stomach. His funeral was conducted Sunday, Aug. 4 at 3 p. m. at the United Evangelical church. Rev. Frank Coffin, grandson of the deceased, of Albany, N. Y., assisted by Rev. C. H. Stauffacher, officiating after which his body was laid beside that of his wife in the family lot in the Zearing cemetery. Mrs. Geo. Coffin, Mr. and Mrs. John Maronda of Montour, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Bek of Eagle Grove, J. E. Jacobs of Des Moines, Mrs. Carrie Jones of Waterloo and Rev. Frank Coffin of Albany, N. Y. were the relatives from a distance who were present at the funeral.

J. F. W. MARONDA

John Frederick William Maronda as born in Rekow, province of Prussia, Germany November 6, 1829. He was married to Carolina Gumtz, August 12, 1848. He with his family came to America in 1861, living for the first eight months in Canada, after which they removed to Harlem, now a suburb of Chicago. From Illinois they came to Iowa and lived in a number of different places to which Mr. Maronda's work called him. They came to Zearing twenty two years ago where they have since resided. Mrs. Maronda preceeded him to the other world eleven years ago.

To them were born eleven children: Caroline and Minnie who died in Germany; Frederick, who died two years ago; Mrs. Joanna Coffin, of Montour, Ia.; Mrs. Augusta Youngs, of Zearing; William, who died nine years ago; Lena, who was buried in the ocean when the family were coming to America; Mrs. Mary Belt of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Youngs of Van Couver, B. C. and the youngest child named Johnson, who also died. There are also living seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Father Maronda was a member of the Lutheran church in childhood. After coming to America he united with the M. E. church later officiating with the Evangelical church in Zearing. He was conscientious, careful and faithful in his church obligations and his manhood and business integrity were beyond question.

Mr. Maronda had been in failing health for some months and finally passed to his reward Friday, August 2, 1912. The funeral was held at the Evangelical church on Sunday afternoon. The text and hymns were chosen by him prior to his death, and at his request his grandson, Rev. F. G. Coffin of Albany, N. Y. preached the funeral sermon. The services were held in charge of Rev. C. H. Stauffacher pastor of the Evangelical church. Interment was made in the family lot in the Zearing Cemetery.
