Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Myra Mae Magnuson
December 27, 1931 - June 15, 2017

Myra Mae Magnuson, 85, of Ellsworth died June 15, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Services will be Wednesday June 21 at 11 am Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Burial will follow in the Homewood Cemetery near Ellsworth.

Myra’s parents were Lee and Hazel Trask and she grew up in Lehigh, Iowa. On December 30, 1950, Myra married Kenneth Magnuson of Ellsworth. They had two daughters, Jean Darnell of Sioux City and Jill Wright of Roland. Kenneth and Myra worked very hard during their lifetime to purchase a farm and build their own home. Myra worked for many years at Thompson’s Hatchery and later for Cuddy Farms in Ellsworth. Myra was a very talented artist. She could draw, paint, and recreate any craft she saw in the stores. She was well-known for baking and sharing kringla with many people in the community. Myra was a Girl Scout leader for many years and specialized in assisting the girls in craft projects. After retirement, Myra was involved in the Ellsworth Community Club and helped many South Hamilton students receive college scholarships. Myra was also very involved with their church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, and baked wonderful treats for after church coffee time. Her special meal for the family was Kumla and Ham with homemade lefsa and lemon meringue pies every Christmas Eve. Myra was in attendance for most of her grandchildren’s school and church activities in the Roland-Story area. Myra always enjoyed attending Bingo at both Ellsworth and in Ames and had many close friends she looked forward to visiting each week.

Myra is survived by her husband, Kenneth Magnuson who now resides at the Stratford Care Center and one sister, Genieve Hoover of Janesville, WI. She is also survived by her daughters, Jean (John) Darnell of Sioux City and Jill (Marvin) Wright of Roland. Her grandchildren are Mindy (John) Stevens of Sioux City, Curtis Wright (Andrea Goedderz) of Norwalk, Rachel (Jordan) Walbaum of Story City and Mark Wright of Roland; Myra was preceded in death by one grandson, Matt Darnell. She kept Matt’s presence alive and close to her through an angel figurine that she always hung above the table at family gatherings. The was with Myra when she passed, and the family believes her special angel was surely present to guide her into heaven. Myra has four great grandchildren: Jack, Gus, and Hazel Stevens and Annie Walbaum, and she loved to hear stories of their adventures in growing.

Myra will truly be missed for her caring for the community of Ellsworth and for her church and friends. She was vibrant and active woman who gave of herself to many people. Thank you for all condolences and words of caring. Her smile shall always live on in the hearts of many.

Visitation will Wednesday from 10 to 11 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ellsworth Public Library.
